Zamfara, Nigeria: Bandits Kill 17 Farmers
Armed bandits attacked farms in Goron (Goran) Namaye village, Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing 17 farmers and injuring 13 others. Residents said the attackers had earlier warned locals not to work the fields during the planting season. One witness, Ibrahim Mohammed, told reporters the gunmen “invaded the farmlands and started to shoot at the farmers.” The victims were given a mass burial, while the injured were transferred to a hospital in Talata‑Mafara.
Local officials linked the assailants to the bandit leader known as Jammo, who has previously imposed a N100 million levy on farmers and abducted village elders. Maradun LGA chairman Sanusi Dosara said he alerted security agencies after the attack. State lawmakers condemned the incident and urged the federal and state governments to take urgent measures to restore safety and protect agricultural activity in the region.
