Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi Begins Four-Day Official Visit to India

Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hussein Ali Mwinyi, arrived in Chennai on 17 July for a four‑day state visit to India that will conclude on 20 July.

During the trip he will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Vice President C P Radhakrishnan in New Delhi, and will lay a wreath at Rajghat in tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. He also attended the 63rd convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chennai as chief guest.

The delegation’s agenda follows the recent India‑Tanzania Joint Trade Committee meeting, where bilateral trade was reported at USD 9.02 billion for FY 2025‑26. Talks are expected to cover trade settlement in local currencies, long‑term business visas, pharmaceutical regulation, and cooperation in health, AYUSH, education and shipbuilding.

A focal point of the visit is the IIT Madras Zanzibar campus, opened in October 2023, which Mwinyi highlighted as a milestone in educational collaboration between the two nations.
