Zanzibar President Hussein Mwinyi visits India to deepen AI, tech and education cooperation

Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi arrived in New Delhi on July 19, 2026, beginning a four‑day state visit (July 17‑20) that followed his appearance as chief guest at the 63rd convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in Chennai. During the visit he met Indian Vice President CP Radhakrishnan and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

The leaders discussed expanding bilateral cooperation across digital technology, artificial intelligence, water infrastructure, healthcare and higher education. Emphasis was placed on the IIT Madras Zanzibar campus – now two years old – and plans for a permanent campus and increased scholarships to make Zanzibar a regional hub for research and innovation. The visit is framed as a step to deepen the India‑Tanzania Strategic Partnership and broaden development ties between the two democracies.
