Zapatero linked to 1.2 million euro PDVSA-related investigation
An investigation by Spain’s Economic and Fiscal Crimes Unit (UDEF) suggests that a corporate network linked to former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero received approximately 1.2 million euros from a family connected to the Venezuelan state oil company, PDVSA.
The funds reportedly originated from Inteligencia Prospectiva, a company controlled by brothers Domingo and Guillermo Amaro Chacón, whose father was an insurer for PDVSA. Investigators suspect Inteligencia Prospectiva may have functioned as a shell company, as it allegedly lacked real business activity despite financial movements totaling 2.6 million euros.
Specific transfers identified include 561,440 euros sent to What The Fav S. L., a company related to Zapatero’s daughters, Alba and Laura Rodríguez Espinosa, for services described as “agency services” and geopolitical report layout. Additionally, 368,258 euros were transferred to Análisis Relevante, a firm linked to Julio Martínez Martínez, who is identified by investigators as a primary frontman.
