Zapopan residents report contaminated water supply

Residents of the Agua Blanca colonia in Zapopan say the municipal water arriving at their homes is dark-colored and has a strong, unpleasant odor, rendering it unusable for cooking, bathing or washing food. They report skin irritation, dermatitis and hair loss, and have called on the water operator SIAPA to investigate the hydraulic network, identify the source of contamination and restore safe water service.

The state Health Secretariat notes that there has been no recorded rise in water‑related illnesses; surveillance data show 54,869 gastrointestinal cases and 8,474 conjunctivitis cases for the current epidemiological week, similar to the previous year. Nevertheless, locals fear health risks and complain about the lack of response and the need to purchase water tankers, increasing their expenses.
