ZapSibNeftekhim petrochemical plant hit by Ukrainian drone attack

The ZapSibNeftekhim petrochemical complex in Tobolsk, Russia’s largest producer of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), was damaged during a Ukrainian drone attack on Monday night. The facility, located approximately 2,200 km from the Ukrainian border, has reportedly been shut down indefinitely for damage assessment.

ZapSibNeftekhim accounts for roughly 40 percent of Russia’s total LPG production, generating approximately six million tons annually. The St. Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange (SPIMEX) reported no LPG supply from the Tobolsk terminal on Tuesday, whereas the terminal typically sells about 4,000 tons of technical propane-butane mixture daily.

The plant is owned by the Moscow-based petrochemical group Sibur, which declined to comment on the incident. The Ukrainian military confirmed the strike, which follows an escalation of aerial attacks on Russian energy infrastructure aimed at disrupting fuel supplies and reducing oil export revenues.
