Zaqatala Water Supply Disrupted by Floods as Heavy Rains Hit Region

Intense rainfall in Azerbaijan's Zaqatala district caused severe flooding that damaged the city’s main drinking‑water sources. The Zilbançay reservoir became heavily turbid, forcing a halt to water intake, while the Meşləş‑Talaçay system suffered blocked intake filters and debris‑filled pipelines. The Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency deployed water trucks and special crews to deliver potable water directly to households, prioritising vulnerable groups.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s Meteorology Directorate issued a warning that the heavy rain system will move into the Marmara region, bringing further downpours to Istanbul and surrounding provinces. Residents are advised to prepare for possible flash floods, landslides and strong winds up to 60 km/h. Local authorities are reinforcing emergency measures and urging the public to stay alert.
