Zaragoza police rescue woman from forced marriage

The Spanish National Police have rescued a woman in Zaragoza who was being forced by her family to marry a man 40 years her senior outside of Spain. Following the intervention, the woman's parents and brother were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking for the purpose of forced marriage, coercion, and domestic violence.

The rescue began after the woman escaped her family home and sought help at a commercial establishment. According to police reports, the victim had lived under extreme isolation and control for years. Her family had reportedly prevented her from pursuing education after she turned 16, restricted her ability to work, and limited her freedom of movement, requiring her to be accompanied by family members during rare outings. She also lacked access to a mobile phone and was forced to perform domestic duties while facing physical aggression and threats when resisting family decisions.

Specialized agents from the Central Unit for Illegal Immigration Networks and Document Falsification (UCRIF) are investigating the case. Preliminary findings suggest the planned marriage abroad was intended to facilitate legal status for the man involved.
