Zaragoza to launch specialized gender violence police unit

The Zaragoza City Council is preparing to launch the ‘Unidad Égida’ to strengthen municipal responses to gender violence. Following the Fiestas del Pilar, selected officers will begin specialized training provided by the National Police’s Family and Women Care Unit (UFAM).

This training is designed to integrate local officers into the state-run VioGén system, facilitating better coordination and protection for victims of gender-based violence. Currently, nine officers are competing for eight available positions within the new unit.
