Zartosht Ahmadi Ragheb denied visits and phone calls in Karaj prison
Zartosht Ahmadi Ragheb, a political prisoner held at the Karaj Central Penitentiary, has been denied both in-person and cabin visits with his family since November 2025. According to reports from the HRANA news agency, his ability to make telephone calls was also revoked approximately one month ago, sparking significant concern among his relatives regarding his health and well-being.
Following the release of statements regarding prisoner demands, Ahmadi Ragheb was reportedly moved in early August from solitary confinement to a multi-person room that remains isolated from other inmates as a punitive measure. He previously faced a new interrogation in July regarding a case opened against him within the prison system.
Ahmadi Ragheb, a former firefighter, was originally sentenced to over five years in prison by the Tehran Revolutionary Court. He later received an additional sentence of one year in prison and two years of exile to Qidar, Zanjan province, on charges of ‘propaganda against the regime.’ His legal challenges and hunger strikes have been linked to his civil activism and protests against prison conditions.
