Punitive communication restrictions at Karaj prison
Overview
Reports from Karaj Central Penitentiary indicate that several political prisoners are facing punitive restrictions on communication.
Zartosht Ahmadi Ragheb, a former firefighter sentenced for ‘propaganda against the regime,’ has been denied in-person and cabin visits with his family since November 2025. His telephone privileges were also revoked approximately one month ago. Following statements regarding prisoner demands, he was moved in early August from solitary confinement to an isolated multi-person room.
Similarly, teacher activist Masoud Farhikhteh has been deprived of all telephone contact and family visits for 53 days. Like Ahmadi Ragheb, Farhikhteh is being held in a separate room from other inmates as a punitive measure following the release of statements regarding prisoner demands. Farhikhteh, who faces charges of propaganda against the regime, previously underwent a 20-day period of solitary confinement.
