Zbýšov mayor orders water quality tests of local pond amid algae concerns
Mayor Viktor Husák of Zbýšov said the municipality has commissioned a water quality assessment of the town’s natural pond. Samples will be analysed by the Water Management Laboratory in Prague for cyanobacteria (sinice) and possible fecal contamination, including tests for Escherichia coli, intestinal enterococci and agents that cause cercarial dermatitis. The stagnant pond, which has no inflow and is sensitive to weather fluctuations, is regularly used for swimming, but officials have not recorded any health complaints so far. Husák noted that the results will determine whether the water meets hygiene standards and will be published once available.
