Zcash Community Grants withdraws proposal to redirect 98,000 ZEC
The Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) committee has withdrawn a proposal to redirect approximately 98,000 ZEC toward future mining rewards following significant criticism from the cryptocurrency community. The original plan, introduced on October 29, intended to transfer 36,200 ZEC from the existing treasury to the Network Sustainability Mechanism to support miners as block subsidies decline.
Critics argued the plan would extend ZCG’s funding duration by four years, rather than reducing it, and called for more community control over the funds. In response to this feedback, the committee confirmed on November 3 that it would no longer pursue the funding changes.
Competing proposals remain under discussion, including a plan supported by Zcash co-founders Sean Bowe and Zooko Wilcox. That alternative involves a 50,000 ZEC treasury contribution and the establishment of a new development fund. Currently, ZCG receives 8 percent of newly issued ZEC, which equates to roughly 144 ZEC daily, until new governance changes are approved.
