Özdemir Berova announces December 2026 election date

Finance Minister Dr. Özdemir Berova has announced plans to hold both local and general elections on December 6, 2026. A draft decision will be prepared by the Council of Ministers and submitted to the Assembly of the Republic to allow both election types to occur on the same date.

Berova indicated that the government is evaluating a proposal to shorten the current two-month election ban period. While no final decision has been made, he noted that legal changes could be implemented following consultations with the opposition.

The Minister expressed confidence that the National Unity Party (UBP) will emerge as the leading party in the upcoming elections. He emphasized that the goal is to establish a period of political stability lasting until 2030, allowing the government to focus on necessary projects without the immediate pressure of election cycles.
