Zeekr SUV locked in Kazakhstan after crossing Chinese border

A Zeekr 9X SUV was immobilised by the manufacturer's "cross‑border protection" system shortly after the vehicle entered Kazakhstan from China. The anti‑theft feature disabled the infotainment display, locked the glove box and sealed the fuel‑tank hatch, leaving the driver unable to refuel for about 30 hours. The owner had applied for a cross‑border activation code but the system activated the restrictions automatically. After the incident went viral on Chinese social media, Zeekr issued a public apology and announced changes to the system. Owners will now be able to generate unlock codes via the Zeekr app, and a forthcoming software update will allow the restrictions to be disabled for overseas travel. The update does not affect models already sold for the European market.
