The owner had requested a cross‑border activation code, but the lock engaged automatically. The episode went viral on Chinese social media, prompting another public apology from Zeekr.
Zeekr has pledged three remedial actions: an unlock‑code generator in its mobile app, a software update that disables the border lock by default for overseas travel, and a 24‑hour phone‑support line. The latest update will not affect models already sold for the European market. The recurring incidents have fueled debate in China over remote vehicle control and consumer‑rights protections, highlighting the challenges of cross‑border EV use under region‑specific software restrictions.
