Netherlands infrastructure: Major bridge closures and maintenance
Several major bridge maintenance and repair projects are causing significant traffic disruptions across the Netherlands.
In Rotterdam, the Van Brienenoordbrug will undergo two night closures on September 9 and 10 to inspect technical installations. The closures affect both directions on the A16, with motorists advised to expect delays of up to 30 minutes. Traffic will be diverted via the Beneluxtunnel and the A20, A4, and A15 motorways.
The Zeelandbrug, connecting Noord-Beveland and Schouwen-Duiveland, is scheduled for a six-week closure starting September 1. The closure is due to cracks found in the steel deck, attributed to age, material fatigue, and increased heavy traffic. Motorized vehicles, including trucks, are diverted via the N57 over the Oosterscheldekering or via the A4 and A58, with potential delays of up to an hour during peak times. While the bridge is closed to cars, cyclists, pedestrians, and emergency services will maintain access.
