Zeki Çeler calls for government resignation over oversight failures
Zeki Çeler, leader of the Social Democracy Party (TDP), has called for the resignation of the current government, stating that management and oversight mechanisms in the country have collapsed. Çeler criticized the recent dismissal of the Minister of Public Works and Transport as a delayed and insufficient measure, arguing that the government cannot avoid responsibility by selecting a single scapegoat.
Using the Filo Jet disaster as a primary example, Çeler emphasized the critical need for effective state oversight. He argued that laws must be applied equally without regard for political affiliations or personal relationships, stating, “If that ship is not in a condition to set sail, it will not set sail.” He asserted that the state's duty is to identify and eliminate risks through proactive inspection rather than issuing explanations after a disaster has occurred.
Çeler outlined the TDP's political priorities if they return to Parliament, which include public reform, meritocracy, and strict accountability. He also noted that a third party could play a decisive role in the country's future political balance.
