Zeki Çeler calls for independent inquiry into Filo Jet disaster
Zeki Çeler, leader of the Social Democratic Party (TDP), has called for an independent and public investigation into the Filo Jet disaster to ensure all dimensions of the incident are fully revealed.
Commenting on upcoming extraordinary meetings in the House of Representatives, Çeler criticized the government-proposed research motions. He argued that because the government is responsible for the oversight and authorization mechanisms currently under scrutiny, it cannot act as the judge of its own investigation.
Çeler is advocating for a parliamentary inquiry that includes all political parties and documents, alongside a parallel independent investigation led by a respected judge. He proposed that this body should consist of experts in law, maritime affairs, public administration, and security, with the authority to access documents and hear witnesses. The goal, according to Çeler, should be to uncover the entire chain of administrative, institutional, and political responsibility rather than merely exonerating the system.
