Zelenskyy advances missile program, orders attacks on Russian defence firms
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine will achieve concrete results for its own anti‑ballistic system, FREYJA, by the turn of 2026‑27. He announced that Ukraine will supply the interceptor and launcher while European partners provide radars, sensors and other critical components, with ten countries now participating in the programme.
Zelenskyy also reported that Ukraine’s domestic ballistic‑missile effort has shown “strong potential”. Tests of the state‑developed Sapsan (1KR1) and private‑sector missiles such as the FP‑7/FP‑9 have been successful, and serial production of Sapsan began in 2025.
In a separate meeting of Ukraine’s military and political leadership, Zelenskyy ordered special operations against identified Russian defence‑industry companies, demanding that the tasks be fully carried out. He warned that Russian weapons contain critical components sourced from abroad.
The United Nations recorded 1,396 civilian deaths and 7,978 injuries in Ukraine during the first half of 2026, reflecting the intensified Russian aerial attacks.
