Ukraine requests 5% to 10% of U.S. Patriot missile stocks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj has issued an urgent appeal to the United States, stating that Ukraine requires 5% of the U.S. Patriot missile arsenal to survive the upcoming winter and 10% to successfully intercept all Russian ballistic missile attacks.
Zelenskyj reported that Ukraine's interceptor missile capacity has decreased by 2.5 times compared to 2025, while the frequency and volume of Russian ballistic missile strikes have doubled. He noted that Ukraine currently possesses only about 1% of the necessary interceptor resources. The shortage is compounded by global demand, as advanced weapon systems are being diverted to conflicts in the Middle East involving Iran.
Data from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) indicates a significant decline in global interceptor stocks. By late July 2026, Patriot missile stocks fell to fewer than 827 units, and THAAD stocks dropped to fewer than 278 units. Meanwhile, reports suggest Russia is maintaining high production rates, including an estimated 55 to 60 Iskander ballistic missiles per month.
