Oleshky official warns of humanitarian crisis in occupied Ukrainian city

The occupied city of Oleshky in Ukraine's Kherson region is facing a severe humanitarian crisis due to prolonged Russian occupation. Tetiana Hasanenko, head of the Oleshky city military administration, reports that the city is practically destroyed, with almost every building sustaining damage.

Approximately 2,000 residents remain in the town, including 35 children who are reportedly trapped and unable to evacuate. The population faces critical shortages of food, drinking water, electricity, gas, and medical care. Hasanenko warned that making territorial concessions to Russia would not lead to lasting peace, describing the occupation as a predatory situation.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has characterized the Russian blockade of food and humanitarian aid in Oleshky as genocide. Ukrainian officials, including Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets, stated that Russia has repeatedly obstructed civilian evacuation efforts. In response, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that Ukraine intends to bring the humanitarian crisis in Oleshky and other occupied communities in the Kherson region to the attention of the UN General Assembly.
