Zenica declares mourning for five mountaineers killed on Mount Elbrus

The city of Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, has declared Tuesday, August 18, 2026, as a day of mourning following the tragic deaths of five local mountaineers on Mount Elbrus in the Russian Federation. The deceased have been identified as Alma Okanović, Denis Okanović, Dr. Meliha Čaušević, Nermin Talam, and Almir Krivdić.

Mayor Fuad Kasumović ordered that flags of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the City of Zenica be flown at half-mast, and all public entertainment events in the city be canceled for the day. The memorial services will include a commemoration at the Bosnian National Theatre at 3:00 PM, followed by religious services at the Sultan Ahmed Mosque complex. The final farewell and burial will take place at the Prašnice City Cemetery.
