Zerbst becomes primary production site for Eberswalder

The sausage brand Eberswalder has designated Zerbst, located in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district, as its new primary production site. This shift follows the closure of the company’s factory in Britz, Brandenburg, earlier this year, which had employed 500 people.

Production will be expanded at the existing Anhalter Fleischwaren GmbH site in Zerbst, which currently employs nearly 700 people and supplies retailers and discounters. The company stated that a majority of its approximately 300 products will be manufactured in Zerbst. Other production will continue in Suhl and Chemnitz, ensuring that 95 percent of Eberswalder products are made in East German facilities.

Eberswalder is part of the Zur-Mühlen-Gruppe, which is owned by the meat industry giant Tönnies. Managing Director Sebastian Kühn emphasized that the brand intends to remain an East German staple, focusing on traditional recipes.
