HOVERAir Versa modular camera and drone bypasses FCC ban

Zero Zero Robotics has unveiled the HOVERAir Versa, a modular 2-in-1 device that functions as both a handheld 3-axis gimbal camera and an autonomous self-flying drone. The system uses a detachable Flight Kit that attaches to the main camera module via a magnetic MagLatch system and pogo pins, allowing the device to transition from a vlogging tool to an airborne platform in seconds.

The Versa has achieved FCC certification for the United States market by utilizing its modular design to bypass certain regulatory hurdles. Because the detachable Flight Kit contains no radio frequency transmitters, the camera module and flight apparatus are treated separately, allowing the product to navigate strict foreign equipment bans. The complete setup weighs approximately 230 grams, which keeps it below the threshold for FAA registration for recreational users.

Technical specifications include a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor capable of 4K video at 60fps, 10-bit HDR, and H-Log recording. It features AI-driven capabilities such as subject tracking, auto-framing, and various flight modes like Orbit and Bird’s Eye. The product is currently being promoted through a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, with early availability expected in certain markets like Japan in mid-September and a showcase scheduled for IFA Berlin.
