Zgierz begins preparations for new emergency shelter

Authorities in Zgierz have taken the first step toward constructing a modern S3 category emergency shelter. A notary deed has been signed for the purchase of a property located at ul. Kolejowa 14.

The planned facility is expected to cover approximately 6,000 square meters and is designed to function during crisis situations. According to Sebastian Dunin, the Vice-Starost of Zgierz County, the shelter aims to provide safety for residents of both the city of Zgierz and the wider Zgierz County.

The infrastructure will include essential systems for water, energy, sewage, and communication to ensure survival conditions when basic services are disrupted. While Zgierz currently possesses 17 existing shelter locations capable of accommodating roughly 2,592 people, this new investment represents a significant expansion of local emergency preparedness.
