Yeni Parti completes parliamentary group formation and announces leadership
Former CHP chairman Özgür Özel left the Republican People’s Party with 91 deputies and founded the Yeni Parti. The party was officially registered, completed its establishment as a parliamentary group in the Turkish Grand National Assembly and held its first closed‑group meeting in the TBMM.
The meeting appointed Ankara MP Tekin Bingöl as group deputy chair, Kocaeli MP Harun Özgür Yıldızlı as group administrative officer and Antalya MP Aliye Coşar as a clerk (katip) member. The group‑management committee was filled by Turan Taşkın Özer, Özgür Karabat, Burhanettin Bulut, Veli Ağbaba and Seyit Torun. Tekin Bingöl was also confirmed as the group’s TBMM deputy chair.
Özel said the party’s current visual is only its name and that a proper logo will be selected through a contest at the congress scheduled for late October‑early November. He claimed more than 200 municipal mayors are ready to join the party, stating he has no doubts about Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavaş and noting pressure on Adana Mayor Zeydan Karalar. The Yeni Parti positions itself as the new main opposition, and its creation raised the number of parliamentary party groups in the TBMM to seven.
