Zhu Bei political coalition faces breakdown amid mayoral race

The potential political coalition between the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) for the Zhu Bei mayoral race has faced a significant breakdown. Tensions have escalated following reports that previous agreements to coordinate candidates have not been honored.

TPP legislators have criticized the KMT for a lack of credibility, calling on KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-wen to provide a formal explanation for the collapse of negotiations. The TPP maintains its intention to field Chiu Chen-yuan for the position. Meanwhile, former legislator Lin Wei-chou suggested there might still be a chance for reconciliation, noting recent meetings with various political figures to seek a consensus.

Public reaction has been intense, with internet personality ‘Guan Zhang’ delivering a lengthy critique of the KMT, labeling the party’s actions as a betrayal of prior commitments. Additionally, former TPP legislator Li Zhen-xiu has officially registered her candidacy for the Zhu Bei mayoral seat, expressing confidence in her eligibility despite ongoing legal and political debates regarding candidate qualifications.
