Zinacantepec authorities address water protests in San Juan de las Huertas

In Zinacantepec, Mexico, local authorities are addressing protests in San Juan de las Huertas regarding a potable water network project. Mayor Manuel Vilchis claimed that political actors are influencing residents to protest the project, which aims to rehabilitate a local well and implement a water conduction line from the Bosques del Nevado settlement to San Cristóbal Tecolit.

Officials stated that the project was presented eighteen months ago and that meetings were held with the Independent Water Committee to ensure autonomy and respect local customs. The municipal water department (OPDAPAS) clarified that while the route includes streets in San Juan de las Huertas, the project is intended to improve water access rather than divert existing supplies.
