Croatian coach Zlatko Dalić set to depart after World Cup, Slaven Bilić favoured successor

Zlatko Dalić confirmed that his tenure with the Croatian national team is ending, describing it as “the definite end of an era” after the side’s elimination in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup, losing 2‑1 to Portugal. His contract expires at the end of the tournament and the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) has already begun discussions on a replacement. Media reports highlight two main candidates: former national coach Slaven Bilić and former international striker Ivica Olić.

Dalić also disclosed that he received a lucrative offer from the United Arab Emirates – reportedly €5 million per season – but the federation appears inclined to keep him on the bench only until a new coach is appointed.
