Zlín building demolition on track following major fire

Demolition of a burnt-out 11-story building in Zlín is proceeding according to schedule, with the remaining structure expected to be roughly demolished within 14 days. The building, located in the former Baťa factory area, was severely damaged by a fire on July 9, which caused parts of the north and west sides to collapse.

Demolition firm Build Synergy is using a heavy excavator with hydraulic shears to dismantle the structure from the top down. Approximately 140,000 tons of debris are expected to be generated from the site. While the owner is required to clear the entire site by December 15, authorities have mandated a six-week deadline to remove parts of the building that pose immediate risks to health and safety.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire, which likely originated in a footwear warehouse on the ninth floor. Police are investigating the incident for potential criminal negligence, which could carry a prison sentence of up to five years. No injuries were reported during the fire.
