Zlín high‑rise building fire continues as temperatures drop

An eleven‑storey office and warehouse building (building No. 34) in Zlín caught fire on 9 July. Professional fire crews and volunteers fought the blaze for several days; parts of the structure collapsed on the northern and western sides. By early July, temperatures inside the wreckage, which had peaked at about 50 °C, were falling thanks to cooler weather and rain, and the site is being kept wet with water drawn from the nearby Dřevnice River.

No injuries have been reported. Investigators are working to determine the cause, which is believed to have started in a shoe‑warehouse on the ninth floor leased by Vasky and then spread upward. Police are probing the incident for possible criminal negligence, which could carry a sentence of up to five years. The building is owned by the company Cream. Drones equipped with thermal cameras continue to monitor hot spots as firefighting units rotate on 12‑hour shifts.
