Netherlands celebrates national Neighbor Day with community events

Residents across various Dutch municipalities participated in ‘Burendag’ (Neighbor Day) to foster community connections and social cohesion.

In Almere Buiten, the local police held an open house to reduce the distance between residents and law enforcement, offering activities for children and discussions on local issues like fatbike traffic. In Heerenveen, the organization Re-Care hosted a neighborhood party to encourage interaction, particularly to integrate a local refugee housing group.

Other celebrations included the 60th anniversary of the Zeilbergsestraat neighborhood association in Deurne and a street prize celebration in Zoeterwoude, where residents of two apartment complexes gathered to mark the town’s 750th anniversary. Housing corporation Omthuis also supported activities in Baarn, Soest, and Leusden, utilizing neighborhood managers to facilitate communication and prevent social isolation.
