USDA Confirms First U.S. Cases of New World Screwworm in Dogs

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the first confirmed case of New World screwworm in a dog from Lea County, New Mexico, marking the fourth detection in Texas. Two additional cases were later confirmed in other U.S. locations. Industry groups, including Zoetis, have issued response resources and management tips for livestock producers and pet owners dealing with the parasitic infestation. The USDA highlighted both the challenges and the progress in monitoring and controlling the spread of the disease within the United States.
