Zooco Estudio designs alpine-inspired restaurant in Madrid
Zooco Estudio has completed the interior design for La Maruca de Azca, a restaurant located in the ground floor of the new IBM headquarters in Madrid's Azca financial district. The design aims to provide a warm, domestic refuge that contrasts with the rigid, corporate atmosphere of the surrounding urban environment.
The 500-square-meter space features organic shapes and continuous surfaces, replacing orthogonal geometry with curves that integrate ceilings, columns, and furniture. To evoke a contemporary mountain cabin, the studio utilized natural materials including Dinesen solid oak, Aureamateria limestone, and Materik mineral paint.
A sculptural marble bar serves as the central focal point, surrounded by custom-made furniture such as continuous benches and service tables. To complete the alpine theme, the interior incorporates large-scale photographs of the Picos de Europa on the walls.
