Zoom rolls out real-time voice translation for meetings
Zoom Video Communications introduced a new feature called Voice Translator that removes language barriers in video meetings. The AI‑driven tool processes spoken audio through automatic speech recognition, machine translation and text‑to‑speech, delivering a translated audio stream either alongside or in place of the original voice. At launch it supports English, Chinese, Spanish, French and Japanese, with German, Portuguese, Arabic and Italian slated for later in the year.
Users activate the translator with a single click, select source and target languages, and each participant controls their own translation settings. Zoom plans additional capabilities such as Voice Cloning, which preserves the speaker’s vocal characteristics, and Translation Projection, which would automatically broadcast a speaker’s words in each listener’s language.
