Zoran Stevanović petition halted following data law violations

A political petition led by Miha Brejc aimed at removing the President of the National Assembly, Zoran Stevanović, has lost credibility after the Information Commissioner halted it due to violations of personal data laws. The petition was criticized for lacking oversight, allowing multiple entries from the same individuals, and including fraudulent names such as Vladimir Putin and Mickey Mouse.

Jelka Godec, leader of the parliamentary group, stated that the campaign was an attempt to create a false impression of a mass uprising and to distract from more important issues. She noted that the dismissal of a parliamentary president requires 46 votes from MPs, not media campaigns or online petitions.

Despite the controversy, recent polling by Mediana for POP TV shows that the Resnica party, led by Stevanović, has seen a slight increase in support from 2.7 percent to 4 percent. The polls also indicate a shift in the political landscape, with the SDS party at 21.7 percent and Robert Golob’s Freedom Movement at 20.9 percent.
