Zrinska garda hosts Hungarian children in cross‑border heritage project

Around early August, two groups of primary‑school children from Szigetvár, Hungary, visited the Croatian region of Međimurje as part of the Interreg project “Snaga prošlosti – raznolikost budućnosti” (ZG‑ZONE). One delegation toured Čakovec, Šenkovec and Gornji Kuršanec, where the Zrinska garda presented the history of the Zrinski family, displayed a replica of Nikola Zrinski’s sabre and introduced the upcoming 460th anniversary of the Battle of Szigetvár. The second group met staff at the Center for Community Services in Međimurje in Pribislavci, where a cultural‑mediation workshop called “Most Zrinskih” let the children create textile art, tell a non‑verbal story and exchange drawings symbolising Hungarian‑Croatian friendship.

During the Pribislavci visit, the centre’s director Andrea Krznar and the Hungarian association’s president Krisztina Zentai signed a cooperation agreement, cementing the partnership for future cross‑border activities. The events also marked the 25th anniversary of the Zrinska garda’s active work in preserving the Zrinski heritage.
