Hungarian-Croatian cross-border heritage project
Overview
In early August 2026, primary school children from Szigetvár, Hungary, visited the Međimurje region of Croatia as part of the Interreg project ‘Snaga prošlosti – raznolikost budućnosti’ (ZG-ZONE).
During the visit, the Zrinska garda presented the history of the Zrinski family and the upcoming 460th anniversary of the Battle of Szigetvár. A second group participated in a cultural-mediation workshop titled ‘Most Zrinskih’ in Pribislavci, which focused on textile art and symbolic exchanges to represent Hungarian-Croatian friendship. The visit concluded with the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Center for Community Services in Međimurje and a Hungarian association to support future cross-border activities.
