Zubeen Garg death case: Singapore-based witness testifies in Guwahati court

Parikshit Sharma, an Assamese resident of Singapore and member of the Assam Association, has become the first witness from Singapore to testify before a fast-track court in Guwahati regarding the death of singer Zubeen Garg.

Garg died on September 19, 2025, after swimming in the sea during a yacht outing near Lazarus Island in Singapore while attending the North East India Festival. While a Singapore Coroner’s Court previously ruled the death a drowning and ruled out foul play, legal proceedings in India are investigating the broader circumstances of the incident.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) filed a charge sheet in December 2025 naming seven accused individuals. Four of the accused—festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and singer Amritprabha Mahanta—face murder charges. Other accused include Garg’s cousin Sandipan Garg and security personnel Nandeswar Bora and Prabin Baishya.

Sharma, who was present on the yacht during the incident, testified as witness PW-115. He is expected to return to court for further cross-examination. Other Assamese NRIs are also anticipated to testify in the ongoing trial.
