Kosovo authorities investigate new suspected mass grave in Zubin Potok

The Special Prosecutor’s Office of Kosovo, together with the Kosovo Police, announced the discovery of a second possible mass‑grave site in the village of Jabukë, Zubin Potok municipality. The location was identified during ongoing excavations that began after earlier remains were found in the nearby hamlet of Kalludër e Vogël, where forensic teams uncovered human bones believed to belong to civilians killed in the 1998‑99 war.

Investigators have applied to the Basic Court in Pristina for permission to conduct exhumations and forensic analyses at the new site. Acting President Albulena Haxhiu described the finding as “a stark reminder of wartime crimes and evidence that justice is still incomplete.” Special Prosecutor Nora Luta urged media to refrain from publishing unverified figures, noting that more than ten court orders for exhumations have already been issued and that the investigation remains in a sensitive, early stage.

A third suspect linked to alleged war crimes against Albanian civilians has been arrested, bringing the total number of detainees in the Zubin Potok case to three. The authorities continue to search for the missing victims, whose families have waited over two decades for answers.
