Zuiderveen Festival proceeds as small‑scale demonstration in Winschoten

The ninth edition of the Zuiderveen Festival in Winschoten was denied a municipal events permit because the application was submitted late and the required environmental permit had expired. Organizer Pet van de Luijtgaarden chose to hold the event on the original Saturday as a reduced‑scale demonstration rather than a full festival.

The demonstration will feature a DJ playing protest music, speakers and a creative act, with all scheduled band performances cancelled. The organizers hope the event underscores the festival’s role in the cultural life of the Oldambt municipality and are in talks with the council about a possible full edition in early October, while planning a larger jubilee edition for the following year.
