Zulia state reports heavy rain damage and power outages
Heavy rains and strong winds in Zulia state, Venezuela, have caused significant damage to infrastructure and the electrical grid. Governor Luis Caldera reported that 770 homes were affected, primarily due to damage to roofs, following the weather event that began on the afternoon of Saturday, October 3.
The storm impacted 39 electrical distribution circuits, resulting in approximately 431 megawatts of power being lost. As of Sunday afternoon, Corpoelec crews were working to address 342 electrical faults in the Zulia metropolitan area, utilizing 110 workers and 21 vehicles.
In Maracaibo, Mayor Giancarlo Di Martino confirmed that the municipal government has deployed 1,500 cleaning operators in continuous shifts to mitigate damage. The weather caused fallen trees, downed utility poles, and damaged radio antenna structures. Local authorities are coordinating with the Zulia Governor's office and Corpoelec to clear public roads, clean drainage channels, and restore services.
