Zulu King Misuzulu and King Ndamase to Meet Zimbabwe President Over SA Xenophobia

AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and King Ndamase of the amaMpondo kingdom are travelling to Zimbabwe to meet President Emmerson Mnangagwa about rising anti‑immigrant sentiment in South Africa. The delegation, scheduled to depart on 10 July, follows nationwide protests on 30 June and recent meetings with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who condemned vigilante groups and ordered security forces to stay on high alert.

The monarchs aim to discuss xenophobia, migration policy and the role of minority communities within the African Continental Free Trade Area, and have proposed a SADC Regional Minority Summit at Victoria Falls to treat migration as a strategic investment asset. Zimbabwe’s government reports over 21,000 citizens repatriated since May and an additional 57,000 who returned independently amid fears of spill‑over violence.

Royal envoy Inkosi Malusi Zondi said he could not disclose the agenda but confirmed immigration will be discussed, while Zanu PF spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa described the talks as part of broader regional efforts to curb the “weaponisation of poverty.”
