Zvonimir Boban critiques Italian football leadership and talent development
Former footballer and AC Milan executive Zvonimir Boban has shared his perspectives on the current state of Italian football during an interview with Rai Radio 1. Boban suggested that the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) would benefit from leadership by a former player who possesses managerial, political, and institutional skills to better support coaches and the sport's development.
Addressing the decline of the Italian national team, Boban attributed the lack of world-class talent following the era of players like Totti and Pirlo to flaws in youth academies and club methodologies. He noted that a focus on collective results and tactical safety often comes at the expense of individual player development.
Regarding club football, Boban commented on Inter Milan, urging the club to provide more playing time to Croatian midfielder Petar Sucic, whom he described as one of the best midfielders in the world. He also addressed AC Milan's ambitions, stating that the club should aim higher than merely qualifying for the Champions League.
