Zwolle man sentenced to 16 years for football club shooting

A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for an attempted murder involving an automatic weapon at the Ulu Spor football club in Zwolle. The shooting, which occurred in September 2024, targeted 33-year-old Emin Y., a figure in the criminal underworld.

The incident was part of a long-standing conflict between rival drug gangs, reportedly triggered by the alleged theft of a courier service's client base. Following a brief confrontation with the victim at the club's canteen, the perpetrator returned home to retrieve an automatic weapon, two pistols, and ammunition before returning to the scene.

The shooter fired 25 rounds, striking Emin Y. three times and hitting the building's facade, where several other people were present. The court ruled that the perpetrator acted with the intent to kill both the victim and the bystanders. While the prosecution sought a 20-year sentence, the court settled on 16 years.
