The 2026 NHL free agency period has seen significant movement, transitioning from the initial signing of marquee names to a more complex market as training camps approach.

In late July, the market focused on a small group of remaining unrestricted free agents, including Eeli Tolvanen, Jacob Ingram, and Alex Bunting, who were viewed as depth options.

By mid-August, the landscape shifted toward restricted free agents and veteran forwards. The market has been influenced by high-value offer sheets, such as the Philadelphia Flyers’ deal for Leo Carlsson, which has reportedly reset price expectations. Key players under scrutiny include Alexander Nikishin, Adam Fantilli, Cutter Gauthier, Simon Edvinsson, and Zachary Bolduc. Additionally, teams like the Edmonton Oilers are monitoring veteran options such as Vladimir Tarasenko and Reilly Smith to manage salary cap constraints.

Following the August 15 deadline for NHL teams to sign unsigned NCAA draft picks, several players have transitioned into unrestricted free agency.
