2026 NPB season achievements and Hanshin Tigers dominance

Overview

The 2026 Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) regular season concluded with significant individual milestones and the dominance of the Hanshin Tigers.

Teruaki Sato of the Hanshin Tigers became the ninth player in professional baseball history to achieve the Triple Crown, leading the Central League in batting average (.306), home runs (39), and RBIs (106). This was the first Triple Crown in the Central League since 2022 and the first for a Hanshin Tigers player since the mid-1980s. Analysts attributed Sato’s success to technical improvements in his batting stance.

In addition to the Tigers' success, several players set records or secured titles. In the Central League, Yukihiro Iwata of the Yakuult Swallows won the stolen base title with 39 steals, while Kounosuke Tatsumi of the Hiroshima Carp set a Japanese record for stolen bases by a pinch-runner with 27. In the Pacific League, Yuki Shuto of the SoftBank Hawks won his fourth consecutive stolen base title. Overall, the Hanshin Tigers captured nine of the twelve available titles during the season.
