2026 ERC Rally Poland – Suninen victory and incidents

Entities: Teemu Suninen · Jakub Matulka · Antti Haapala · Mateusz Kacprzak · Daniel Dymurski

Overview

Finnish driver Teemu Suninen and co‑driver Antti Haapala secured their first ERC win at the 82nd Rally Poland, finishing 9.7 seconds ahead of the Polish duo Jakub Matulka and Daniel Dymurski, who not only took runner‑up but also clinched the national KIQ RSMP classification. Suninen recorded six special‑stage victories – the most of any crew – and earned 80 points, extending his lead in the ERC standings to 23 points.

Polish veteran Kajetan Kajetanowicz and co‑driver Maciej Szczepaniak completed the top five, while a firefighter crew, Marcin Górny and Mateusz Martynek, claimed second place in class 3, sixth in ERC 3 and ninth overall. Miko Marczyk with Szymon Gospodarczyk kept third overall.

The rally, moved from its traditional Mazurian gravel routes to Silesian asphalt for the first time in two decades, comprised 15 special stages; three were cancelled after crashes. A serious accident on stage 11 at Hażlach saw Piotr Piesko and Mateusz Kacprzak’s Peugeot 208 Rally4 flip, catch fire and halt the stage; both drivers were hospitalized in stable condition. Earlier incidents involving Marcel Neulinger and Dominik Stříteský forced the cancellation of stages at Jastrzębie‑Zdrój and Ochaby, raising safety concerns throughout the weekend. The event also counted toward the Polish national KIQ RSMP championship.
