Italian students' misconduct in Bangkok metro

In late July 2026 a video of Italian school‑trip students behaving offensively on Bangkok’s BTS Skytrain went viral, sparking outrage among Thai netizens. Thai authorities fined the five identified minors and initiated possible expulsion proceedings. The Italian Embassy in Bangkok quickly issued an official apology, condemning the conduct and emphasizing that it did not reflect Italian values. The students recorded apology videos and were escorted to a police station, with some being returned to Italy.

Two days later the Italian Embassy reiterated its regret, the travel operator and student leaders issued further apologies, and diplomatic channels affirmed the long‑standing friendly ties between Italy and Thailand, framing the episode as an isolated incident.
